    The story follows the life of its protagonist, Jane Eyre, from her childhood to adulthood. It is a bildungsroman, a coming-of-age story, that explores themes such as social class, gender inequality, love, and independence.

     

    The novel begins with Jane's unhappy childhood. After being orphaned at a young age, Jane is sent to live with her cruel Aunt Reed at Gateshead Hall. Jane endures mistreatment and neglect from her aunt and cousins until she is eventually sent away to Lowood Institution, a charity school for girls. At Lowood, Jane faces harsh conditions but finds solace in her studies and forms strong friendships.

     

    As Jane grows older, she becomes a teacher at Lowood. Seeking new experiences, she advertises herself as a governess and secures a position at Thornfield Hall, teaching Adele Varens, a young French girl. There, Jane meets Mr. Edward Rochester, the brooding and mysterious owner of Thornfield. Despite their differences in social status and age, Jane and Rochester develop a deep connection and fall in love.

     

    However, their relationship faces several obstacles. First, Jane discovers that Rochester is already married to Bertha Mason, a woman he had been forced into marrying years ago. This revelation devastates Jane, and she flees Thornfield in desperation. She ends up at Moor House, where she finds shelter with St. John Rivers and his sisters.

     

    At Moor House, Jane learns that she has inherited a fortune from her uncle. However, she cannot forget her love for Rochester and decides to return to Thornfield. When she arrives, Jane finds the house burned down and Rochester blind and crippled due to the fire set by Bertha, who died in the incident. Jane and Rochester reconcile and marry, finding happiness despite their new circumstances.
